What about the Angels?
With all of the attention on the big first-round picks yet to sign, particluarly the big Scott Boras clients in Matt Wieters, Rick Porcello (who is all but officially signed), Andrew Brackman, it’s easy to forget about another of his guys — Matt Harvey. He slid to the third round because of perceived bonus demands — some have said it’s in excess of $2.5 million — eventually taken by the Angels. The Angels, as you probably know, have a history of 1) Dealing with Boras (Weaver, Jered) and 2) Taking risks with later picks and going over slot to sign those players. Whether that means this will get done remains to be seen. It’s still being worked on, I’m told, and both sides will likely continue to do so right down to the wire. It’s how they did things with Weaver, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he signs. I do know that Harvey is the only draftee the Angels are still working on, so if he doesn’t join the organization, it’s not from a lack of effort.
